Hi there! I want to thank all of you who commented on my photo of James and his figure skating medals a few weeks ago! When I posted that, I told you that I would post a photo blog of him on the ice! I don't have the right lens to make these photos impressive, but I will share them with you anyways!
This shot is him all dressed up at lunch and he had already won his first medal! We ate lunch at a drive-in that was super cool! I have intentions of posting a short photo blog from just that place!
Here is a close up shot of that medal for 3rd place in Compulsory! I didn't think to take a close up shot of the 2nd place medal that he won later that day!
He is all ready to go out and skate his Free Style Program!
When it was his turn, he got on the ice and his music wouldn't play on the rink's system! After some time trying to play a second cd that didn't work either, they had him come off the ice until it was figured out! They let several other children go and came back to James at the end! This is him patiently waiting to start !
I understand the reason for this, but I couldn't sit right in front of this sign and not snap a shot of it ! (: I turned my flash off anyways! It wouldn't be useful in this situation! I really don't understand why anyone would use flash photography in this case, but apparently some people did or there wouldn't be a sign! (:
I practiced shooting on some of the other little girls that were in his class or group! I am not sure what it is called!
Back on the ice and ready to go! They ended up hooking his mom's iPhone to the sound system so that they could play his music! With all this going on, he never got flustered or upset! He took it like it was just part of the experience! I guess it was! (:
There you have it! Our precious James skating like a pro at his first competition! We are so PROUD of this little boy! It struck me what courage it takes to go out in there in front of all those people and especially the judges, and skate a full program! He has my respect!
He happily accepted his 2nd place medal up on the podium! He looked so smart in his tuxedo!
Here he is with much loved Coach Terry! I had never met her before and let me tell you, she is one impressive woman! I am so glad that my brother's children are in such good hands when they are out on the ice!
One final shot before heading out!
I hope you enjoyed a peek into competitive figure skating in Northern Michigan! I have seen both Grace and David skate in a skating show before, but this was my first time at a competition! I was shocked by how stressful this process is! I have a new found respect for what my brother and sister in law put into these skating competitions! They are such AMAZING and LOVING parents! I have an awesome family, and I couldn't love these kids anymore! <3 It just isn't possible! (:
Thank you for time and attention! I hope this wasn't too long! Next time I will try to get better photos to share! I have since been working hard on action shots! You saw my photo blog of Trevor playing basketball! My skills are getting better!
I hope you are all having a GREAT week! (:
