At my age, it is very hard to choose a favorite fall memory! I have so many of them! That one in particular that I really want to talk about took place when I was between the ages of 8-12 years old! While our parents got together at my Grandma's farm, we cousins would greet our family and then run out to play in the leaves! My grandma had 2 rakes and we would take turns using them! We would rake up a huge pile of leaves and then run as fast as we could and just let go and jump into the pile! We would come down into the leaves so hard that we were often completely covered by the leaves! You couldn't even see our faces!
We also had great fun picking up all the chestnuts that had fallen from my Grandma's tree! Most of them were still in their shell! We would rub the shells with any sharp rock we could find and then tear up our fingers to pry the chestnuts out! There is nothing like the shine and the smell of a freshly shelled chestnut!
Later when my grandma sold the farm and moved into town, even though we were getting older, we would still rake up her entire yard so that we could jump into the leaf pile! I always wonder if my brother and my cousins remember those days as fondly as I do!
