I told you last week about my walk through Michilimackinac State Park up in Mackinaw City! I am finally getting around to putting the photos into a blog so that you can get a peek at them! I really hope that you like them! For those who didn't hear my account in a post last week, our government has been shut down because our President and our Congress cannot agree! That means that the parks are all closed! That means that there aren't many tourists in the park, and it was a perfect day with a bright blue sky for me to walk through and enjoy myself! Let's get started!
I have to start with our beautiful Mackinaw Bridge that connects the two peninsulas of Michigan! I live at the tip of the Lower Peninsula! The bridge is also the dividing line between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron! This is the Lake Huron side! I decided that ever so often I would stop and shoot the bridge as I walked along to show the bridge from different points along the path in the park!
If you can read this, it tells all about the park! I don't know why I didn't get up in front of it to get a shot that was more readable! Derp!
These are set all along the path, and I think they are lovely markers!
I tried to get close to this flock of Seagulls, but most of them flew as I approached them! A few that were a bit further away stayed! Unlike everyone else here, I don't hate seagulls! I like them and think that they are rather pretty!
The next bridge shot!
Some other locals enjoying the quiet park! I thought their dog was rather cute, so I took their picture! They have no idea! (: I also love the big birch trees that grow in the park too!
And the next shot of the bridge! I really like this one because of the way it looks layered! You can also see that beautiful deep shade of blue that is our water up here! The wind was blowing in off the lake, but the water itself was quite calm!
This time I did it right! The park is also home to the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse! They only open the tower to visitors on a few occasions each year, but I can't think of what they are right now! I have never been to the top of it, but Elaine and James have!
Here are some shots of the Lighthouse from several different angles! I think that it is one of the prettiest lighthouses we have up here! McGulpin Point is really nice, but it is nothing as grand as this one! I am going to pay better attention next year and go climb it when it is open!
And the next shot of the Bridge!
Yet another shot! I like that there happened to be quite a few cars on the bridge in this shot! Even the huge trucks look small from here!
Here I was trying to be all tricky and shoot the bridge through the trees, but my little lens just isn't powerful enough to capture what I was going for! Still, I had to include it! Maybe you can imagine what I imagined! (:
I can't remember if I took this before or after my attempt at shooting through the trees!
A pretty yellow birch leaf on the path!
This is from the end of the path! I love the rocks!
That white fence is the end of park! That "castle" there is a summer home for one of the hotel and business owners in Mackinaw City! I am always blown away that this is a SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING FOR ONLY 3 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR!!! I sit here in my tiny apartment in Pellston and drean of myself living in a place this grand!
Now I am headed back towards the bridge and still taking photos as I go! (:
At this point, I wandered off the path and down to the rocks! I didn't go down to the water because I didn't want any stones or sand in my shoes!
I am nearly back to the fort here and I realized that I had only taken photos of the spires, so I took this shot where the road just starts to go out over the water! The Bridge is 5.5 miles long!
I did end up in the sand and stones because NO one was there! I decided to hop over the creek and get a few shots from under the bridge! It is a whole new perspective!
There you have it, the Mighty Mac (as we call it) and my afternoon in the park! I hope you enjoyed it in photos as much as I did in person! I am not sure if that is even possible, but I can hope!
